Glossary: Peak Epoc

EPOC (Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) describes the excess oxygen intake above the resting requirement after exertion (also referred as the "after-burn effect"). The level of EPOC depends primarily on the intensity (and duration) of exercise.

EPOC can be measured directly by spiroergometry or estimated indirectly by heart rate. This calculation is possible at any time during an activity. The maximum value during the activity, i.e. the peak EPOC, can be considered as a measure of exercise intensity.
